Press Release
New Publishing Company Announces Innovative Approach to eBook Marketing
June 20, 2009 — CRIA (the Commercial Research Image Archive) today unveiled CriaBooks.com, a new portal for high-quality, full-color eBooks. CriaBooks is the exclusive digital publisher for works by well-known authors, offering illustrated eBooks in both PDF and EPUB formats to address both personal computers and e-readers (such as Amazon's Kindle and Sony's Portable Reader).
CriaBooks is both publisher and distributor for its authors. This relationship gives CRIA tremendous latitude with respect to marketing its digital products. CRIA's authors retain their electronic copyrights and earn a full 50% of the sale price of their books (in stark contrast to the single-digit commissions paid by many book publishers).
Most people are aware of the eBook revolution now underway. With the recent launch of several new readers, followed by last month's announcement of new color readers from Fujitsu and Phillips, attention is rapidly shifting to eBooks. However, some customers are finding a fragmented market, with technology companies jockeying for positions through proprietary software and hardware.
To address these issues, CriaBooks applies a design process to insure its eBooks display correctly on all personal computers and hardware readers. Each book is individually showcased with full-color excerpts and a wealth of information for prospective buyers. Single-author works are offereded as both individual and package downloads at competitive prices, with significant discounts for 2 or more eBooks.
Part of CriaBook's philosophy stems from the company's founder, Jay Robert Nash, who is himself a distinguished author. As one of the world's foremost encyclopedists, Nash has authored more than 70 works with several best-sellers, including "Bloodletters and Badmen" and "The Motion Picture Guide." Nash is the only author ever to receive four "Best Reference" citations from the American Library Association.
"CRIA is devoted to quality content in all its visual forms," said Nash. "We are highly selective about the authors we publish and the quality of their works. We take many steps to insure a high quality eBook such that the end product is a faithful presentation of the original work. You will not find better eBooks anywhere on the Internet."
About CRIA LLC

About CRIA Books
CriaBooks is devoted to quality content in all its visual forms. We are highly selective about the authors we publish and the quality of their works. We take many steps to insure a high quality eBook such that the end product is a faithful presentation of the original work. You will not find better eBooks anywhere on the Internet.
You are given the right to print any book you download. If you print it on a color laser printer, you will find that it equals or exceeds the print quality of the same work purchased in a bookstore. Note that you may not sell or give away copies of downloaded works (see Terms of Use for additional information).
DID YOU KNOW...
- Some authors slave over a book for years, yet some publishers and distributors keep 90% or more for themselves. Most authors earn 5% to 10% of the sale price.
- An attitude of entitlement makes some book publishers believe they're doing authors "a big favor" by publishing their books at all.
- Most publishers and distributors offer books solely on the basis of profits — quality and popularity are secondary. Consider: Every year, less than 100,000 new books are published, but more than 300,000 go out of print. Selections continue to dwindle and publishers continue to offer less, while taking more and more.
CriaBooks's Mandate
- CriaBooks's authors earn 50% on sales of their own books — and that's as it should be.
- CriaBooks faithfully renders the original book in electronic form, retaining all pagination, margins, illustrations, captions, layouts and formatting. You should expect nothing less from ANY electronic book publisher.
- CriaBooks offers a comprehensive overview of each and every book we sell. You have a wealth of information available about each book — because you have the right to know what you're buying.
- CriaBooks's proprietary optimization methods allows us to render major works with hundreds or thousands of images. We preserve the ability for readers to view or print pages at high quality, while file sizes are kept low. You won't need to buy a new disk drive just to store your ebooks, and it won't take hours to download them.
